SLOVENIA

Slovenia is a small and picturesque country in Central Europe, bordered by Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia, with a short stretch of coastline on the Adriatic Sea. It has a very diverse landscape – from the Julian Alps and dense forests to fertile plains and world-famous karst caves like Postojna. Historically, Slovenia was part of the Roman Empire, and later the Austro-Hungarian Empire until 1918. After World War II, it became one of the republics of Yugoslavia and gained full independence in 1991. Today, Slovenia is a prosperous member of the European Union, known for its strong economy, high quality of life and commitment to sustainability. The capital city, Ljubljana, is especially recognised for its green spaces and lively cultural scene. Some of the country’s most famous natural highlights include Lake Bled and Triglav National Park.
