Balkan trip

November 20, 2026

Three cities, three days, endless history — Banja Luka, Sarajevo and Mostar, the best of Bosnia and Herzegovina! 🕌

Three days, three cities, one of the most fascinating corners of the Balkans. Join us on a journey through Bosnia and Herzegovina, from the riverside streets of Banja Luka, to the historic heart of Sarajevo, to the bridge-town of Mostar – a region where Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian and Yugoslav history all come together in one place. 🚍

1st DAY (Ljubljana – Banja Luka – Sarajevo)

We leave Ljubljana early in the morning and travel through Croatia and into Republika Srpska. Our first stop is Banja Luka, the largest city in this part of Bosnia, set along the Vrbas River. With our local guide, we’ll walk through the city’s highlights: Kastel Fortress, the main pedestrian street Gospodska, the Ferhadija Mosque, and a mix of Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman-era buildings that tell the story of the city’s layered past. 🏰

After the tour, you’ll have free time to explore the city at your own pace, relax in a local café, or try regional specialities like ćevapi, burek, or Banja Luka’s own local beer. In the afternoon, we continue to Sarajevo, where we check into the hotel and have some time to rest before the evening. For those who want it, there’s an optional night out in one of Sarajevo’s well-known clubs – a taste of Balkan nightlife (optional, extra charge). 🎶

Banja Luka
2nd DAY (Sarajevo)

After breakfast, we take a full guided tour of Sarajevo – starting with a panoramic bus ride, then continuing on foot. Our local guide will take us through the city’s most iconic sights: Baščaršija, the old bazaar filled with traditional shops and the smell of fresh Bosnian coffee; the Sebilj Fountain; the Latin Bridge, where the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand set off the First World War; and the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque, among other landmarks shaped by Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian and Yugoslav history. ☕

The rest of the afternoon is yours to explore freely – sip a traditional Bosnian coffee, browse handcrafted souvenirs, or try local dishes like tufahija, dolma, or Sarajevo-style ćevapi with somun bread. Visit a museum, walk along Wilson’s Promenade, or simply take in the city’s atmosphere at your own pace. An optional return transfer to the hotel is available later in the afternoon, but you’re also free to stay in the city and keep exploring for as long as you like.

As evening falls, we head to a different club from the night before, for another side of Sarajevo’s nightlife (optional, extra charge). 🎉

Sarajevo
3rd DAY (Sarajevo – Mostar – Ljubljana)

After breakfast, we check out and set off towards Mostar, stopping briefly in Jablanica – a town known for its destroyed bridge over the Neretva River, a site tied to the historic Battle of Neretva during the Second World War.

In Mostar, our local guide leads us on a walking tour of the city, best known for its Stari Most (Old Bridge), a striking 16th-century Ottoman bridge connecting the two sides of the city. But Mostar has more to offer beyond the bridge – we’ll also see the Old Bazaar, the Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque, the Turkish House, and plenty of small artisan shops selling handcrafted souvenirs.

Before heading back to Slovenia, there’s time for one last taste of Bosnian food – japrak, klepe, pita, or baklava with a cup of traditional coffee. We arrive back in Ljubljana late at night, with three days’ worth of history, flavours and stories to bring home. 🚍
