SLOVENIA
Slovenia is a small, picturesque country in Central Europe, bordered by Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia, with a short stretch of coastline on the Adriatic Sea. Despite its size, it packs in remarkable variety — from the peaks of the Julian Alps and dense forests to fertile plains and world-famous karst caves like Postojna. Historically, the region was part of the Roman Empire and later the Austro-Hungarian Empire until 1918. After the Second World War, it became one of the republics of Yugoslavia, before gaining full independence in 1991. Today, Slovenia is a thriving EU member state, known for its strong economy, high quality of life and commitment to sustainability. Its capital, Ljubljana, is especially celebrated for its green spaces and lively cultural scene, while natural highlights such as Lake Bled and Triglav National Park draw visitors from around the world.
