Trip to Savinjska region

Fresh mountain air, forest views and a taste of local tradition — this one-day trip to Rogla and Žalec has a bit of everything. Whether you’re into outdoor adventure or a slower kind of exploring, it’s a great way to discover a different side of Slovenia.

Treetop Walk Pohorje

We start at the Treetop Walk Pohorje, a wooden path that winds high above the forest floor. Along the way, small stops share bits of information about the plants and animals that call this forest home, before you reach the observation tower at the top – where the view stretches out across the green hills of Pohorje. (Entrance ticket included in the trip price.)

Rogla Fun Park or Lovrenška Lakes

After the walk, the rest of the morning is yours to shape.

Feeling adventurous? Head to the Rogla Fun Park for a ride on the 1,360-metre alpine coaster – race down the mountain for an adrenaline rush, or take it slow and enjoy the view. Prefer to skip the speed? There’s always a mountain café nearby for a well-earned drink. (Weather-dependent, extra fee not included in the trip price.)

Looking for something quieter? Take a walk to the Lovrenška Lakes, a cluster of small high-altitude lakes formed thousands of years ago, connected by wooden walkways through the forest. Still, mirror-like water, rare plants and total quiet – it’s the kind of spot that’s made for slowing down (and taking a few good photos along the way).

Žalec

On the way back, we stop in Žalec, home to the world’s first beer fountain. Fed by hops from the nearby Savinja Valley – one of Europe’s hop-growing regions – it pours up to six different local craft beers. (Beer tasting optional, extra cost not included in the trip price.) Not a beer person? Spend the time wandering Žalec’s old town instead, with its traditional streets and low-key charm.

By the time we’re back in Ljubljana, you’ll have gone from treetop views to mountain adrenaline (or peaceful lakes), and from local beer to small-town streets – a day that mixes a little bit of everything Slovenia does well.
