You will visit some cultural and historical sights of this mighty queen of the Adriatic: The Bridge of Sighs, Doge’s palace, The office of Procurators of Saint Mark, Saint Mark’s square, his Campanile tower and his Basilica, which is designed and decorated in many different architectural styles. Following that, you will be taking a walk to the Rialto bridge and the famous market of Venice, leaving you with the time to get to know their Venetian cuisine. For the remainder of the day, you will be free to discover all of the hidden corners of the city on water. The return home will follow in the late afternoon, with your arrival in Ljubljana during the evening hours.

Allow us to tell you something more about some of the most breathtaking sights Venice has to offer below.

St. Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco)

At the heart of Venice lies the illustrious St. Mark’s Square, a grand piazza surrounded by some of the city’s most famous landmarks. Dominating the square is St. Mark’s Basilica, a breathtaking masterpiece of Byzantine architecture adorned with intricate mosaics that narrate tales of faith and history. The Campanile di San Marco, a soaring bell tower, offers panoramic views of the city’s rooftops, canals, and the distant islands of the lagoon.

St. Mark’s Square
The Grand Canal

The Grand Canal winds its way through the heart of Venice, flanked by opulent palaces, historic buildings, and charming bridges. A journey along its waterways on a vaporetto (water bus) or a gondola offers an unforgettable perspective of the city’s architectural splendor. Iconic bridges such as the Rialto Bridge, with its elegant arches and bustling market, and the Accademia Bridge, offering glimpses of the Accademia Gallery, grace the Grand Canal.

The Grand Canal
Rialto Bridge

One of Venice’s most recognizable symbols, the Rialto Bridge spans the Grand Canal in all its ornate glory. The bridge not only connects two bustling districts but also stands as a testament to Venetian engineering prowess and artistic finesse. A stroll across this bridge immerses you in the bustling energy of the Rialto Market, where vibrant displays of fresh produce, seafood, and local goods create a sensory feast.

Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale)

Adjacent to St. Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace is a grand testament to Venetian Gothic architecture and political power. Once the seat of the Venetian government, its opulent rooms, stately chambers, and the notorious Bridge of Sighs that connects it to the New Prison reveal the intriguing stories of Venice’s past. The palace’s lavish interiors are adorned with artworks by renowned painters, including Tintoretto and Veronese.

The Bridge of Sighs

Connecting the Doge’s Palace to the New Prison, the Bridge of Sighs is shrouded in legend and lore. Its name stems from the supposed sighs of prisoners who caught their last glimpse of Venice and freedom before entering incarceration. This elegant, white limestone bridge with delicate stone lattice-work has become an emblem of the city’s romantic and mysterious ambiance.
